Alex Prud'homme on The Ripple Effect

The Fate of Fresh Water in the Twenty-First Century

In an in-depth investigation for his book The Ripple Effect, Prud'homme exposes the distressing realities of water scarcity, political corruption, inefficiencies, a crumbling water infrastructure and climate change which challenge our fresh water future. 

Alex Prud'homme has been a journalist and author for over twenty years.  He has written on a wide range of subjects for The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and Time.  He has authored four books, most notably as co-writer of Julia Child’s memoir, My Life in France, which was a best-seller and inspired half the film “Julie & Julia.”

His latest book is The Ripple Effect: the Fate of Freshwater in the Twenty-First Century, was published in 2011, and inspired the 2012 documentary film “Last Call at the Oasis” (see Beacon Institute Third Thursday event, June 20).  To promote the book, Prud’homme has appeared on radio and TV, including “The Daily Show,” “Imus in the Morning,” and many NPR shows.  He has produced numerous articles about water for The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Men’s Journal, The Huffington Post, and the like. Alex Prud’homme lives with his family in Brooklyn, NY.
