CRASH RESOURCE OFFICER – 1

The Saint Paul Police Professional Development Institute (PDI) is sponsoring a 5-day course titled CRASH RESOURCE OFFICER - 1.

This course is designed to develop the skills necessary to effectively conduct crash investigations. The students will learn the ability to locate, identify, interpret and preserve the physical evidence involved with traffic crashes.  Some of the areas covered are: roadway evidence, vehicle examination, injury analysis, human factors discussion, lamp examination, seatbelt examination, basic physics principles, crash investigation technology, measurement techniques, and basic speed analysis. The course will include practical exercises and field testing will be conducted where speed estimation techniques learned will be applied.

A basic scientific calculator is required for this course. The calculator must be able to perform the “square” and “square root functions. A good economical choice would be the TI-30 from Texas Instruments. Each participant will also receive a authoritative text book as part of the course ($75-100 value).

Greg Gravesen is currently a Sergeant with the St Paul Police Department.  He has 23 years of law enforcement experience in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  He is currently and has been an ACTAR (Accredited Accident Reconstructionist) since 1994. He has been qualified as an expert witness in both civil and criminal courts. Since 2005, Sgt. Gravesen has been an adjunct instructor with the University of North Florida – IPTM, teaching Basic and Advanced Pedestrian and Bicycle Reconstruction courses.
