The Saint Paul Police Professional Development Institute (PDI) is sponsoring a 4-day course in Basic Under-Cover Operations/Support/Tactical Considerations.
The first day is classroom and students will be required to bring pad and pen ONLY dressed in BDU’S and t-shirt / DT shirt.
This course will focus on the operational side of undercover (UC) police work and tactics. This is a hands-on course designed for the new as well as the experienced officers whose job description puts them in a UC role or support role. The focus will be on all types of UC work, not just narcotics. This course is not just for the UC but those who support the UC during operations and those who conduct plain clothes surveillance. Participants will be instructed on plain clothes/UC weapon carry, concealment, and retention tactics. This portion of the course will be physically demanding and require the students to practice these skills in a gymnasium setting.
Next, participants will move to the range and practice live fire drills that will include drawing from concealed carry, shooting from and into actual vehicles, shooting from the ground, and on the move.
Finally, the course will incorporate role playing and simunitions training for the UC as well as the UC support team. The students will design operational plans and then execute these plans with an emphasis on UC safety and support.
Equipment: Participants are required to bring their duty weapon and a method of carry which is consistent with their duty assignment, and at least 3 magazines. Eye and ear protection are also required, and a baseball style cap is recommended.
Ammunition: Each student will need to bring 600 rounds of ball or practice ammunition for their duty weapon, 100 rounds for their under-cover(concealable) weapon and 200 rounds of 9mm pistol simunitions (Available for Purchase).
