UNDERSTANDING TAX ISSUES AFFECTING YOUR CHURCH                                                      Presenter: John Butler, Attorney – Tax Counsel, CapinCrouse

Although churches are tax-exempt, they are still affected by a number of tax issues. Our tax expert will provide an update on the current changes and issues ministers and churches need to be aware of. Topics will include unrelated business income as well as the findings in the ECFA Commission's report on non-profit tax and regulatory issues and how this may affect you. We'll also focus on important aspects of minister's tax status and requirements for maintaining this status, including exemption and housing allowances. [ CPE: Tax ]

WHY CHURCHES STRUGGLE                                                                                              Presenter: Vonna Laue, Partner, CapinCrouse

A variety of factors can contribute to financial challenges in a church. In this session we'll explore factors you should consider now to better prepare for your congregation's future and any financial issues that may arise. We'll discuss how to analyze and plan for environmental factors outside the control of the church leadership, such the economy and changing demographics. We'll also provide suggestions and best practices for managing financial factors within the church's control, with discussion focusing on budgetary controls, contingency plans, cash reserves, and more. [ CPE: Specialized Knowledge ]

CHURCH IT ISSUES                                                                                                          Presenter: Nick Nicholaou, President, Ministry Business Services, Inc.

Church leadership is responsible for the effective use of technology, but may not want to get into the details of making it work. This session will help answer church leaders’ questions about current and emerging trends and strategies in local computer networks, cloud computing, mobile technologies, and software solutions. [ CPE: Specialized Knowledge ]

PREPARING FOR FINANCING OR A REFINANCE                                                                                           Presenter: Tom Greer, Director of Innovations, Newsong Church

In the current financial environment, it has become harder to secure new debt or uNdergo refinancing. In this session we will share financing sources and discuss requirements. We'll also outline what to expect during the financing or refinancing process and how to prepare for it. [ CPE: Specialized Knowledge ]
