TN SDC Data Tools Workshop

Johnson City, TN

April 10, 2013

The Tennessee State Data Center is pleased to announce a FREE one-day, hands-on Census Workshop in Johnson City, TN designed to enhance user-knowledge of interactive Census data tools.

Topics include:

Using American FactFinder (AFF) - New Tools And Enhancements

From information on individual neighborhoods to state- or national-level data, the new AFF Data Retrieval Tool is a powerful filtering tool for navigating the Census Bureau's vast amount of data, including Decennial Census, American Community Survey, and Economic Census statistics. New enhancements-- including a simplied page design, a guided search option, and an enhanced community facts tool--have made AFF an efficient, easy-to-use tool. This session will provide hands-on instruction for navigating this powerful tool.

Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Analytic Tools Overview

Looking for timely and detailed Labor Market information for your state, county, or metro area? Need data on employment, job creation and turnover and earnings by industry, age, and gender? The LED program is a partnership between state labor market information agencies and the Census Bureau to develop just such information about local labor market conditions. The LED has developed a powerful set of dynamic analytic online tools to easily access these data, and we will provide a general overview of each of these, including the

Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI)-economic indicators that allow comparison across geographic levels;

Industry Focus-examine top industries and their workers in your area;

CED HotReports-a multi-faceted view of conditions using charts, maps, tables and dynamic text; and

OnTheMap-where people work and live.

Navigating OnTheMap

The LED OnTheMap tool is a web-based mapping and reporting application that shows where people live and where they work in your community through interactive maps, charts and tabular reports. Companion reports on age, earnings, industry distribution, and local workforce indicators are available. This hands-on session will provide the tools necessary to generate your community-specific reports.
