CCASA Spring Regional Training-Denver (Tech Center area)

Registration Deadline: Friday, May 3rd at 5pm!

Strengthening Military-Civilian Community Partnerships to Respond to Sexual Assault is an interactive training that helps participants establish partnerships with local military installations in order to effectively respond to the needs of sexual assault victims in the military.  Throughout this training, participants will build knowledge about military systems, protocols, and culture to improve service provision to military sexual assault victims and to develop an appreciation of the perspectives of their future collaborative partners.  It is through this developing sense of awareness that civilians will begin to understand Military Service Members, the culture they live and operate in, what motivates him/her, and what a military victim may need when working with community-based advocates.  Training participants will gain information and skills related to steps toward successful collaborations, including the importance of having MOUs between community-based programs and local military installations.  This training will also feature a showing and discussion of the documentary film “The Invisible War.” The Denver training will also include a presentation from Lizzy Slatt, Therapist at the Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) Center. Lizzy has been honored to serve as a therapist, facilitating 5-day retreats for OIF and OEF Female Veterans from 2011-2012.  Lizzy will share her experiences on these retreats which incorporated group support with physical, body-centered, mindfulness, artistic and outdoor nature-based activities with positive results.

Event times: The training will be 9am-5pm on Tuesday and 9am-12pm on Wednesday.
