Our off-road training has been so popular, we're doing it again!
On Saturday, June 8, 2013, we'll head out again to get some off-road training under our belts -- and some dirt under our fenders!
The last two summers have seen us hosting a day of off-road training for GS (and other enduro bike) riders at the Massey family farm in Spotsylvania. About 50 eager riders joined us each time and a lot of people have asked us to do it again, so we're ready to go again!
Join us on Saturday, June 8, for our third annual day of GS training. We'll meet at Morton's BMW at 9:00 am, then head for the farm at 9:30 am. We'll have a couple hours of training in the morning, take a break for lunch -- included in your $75 fee -- and continue training in the afternoon. At the end of the training session, we'll take a little adventure tour around the farm so you can practice what you've learned.
Riders in the 2011 class negotiate a trail through the woods.
We plan two levels of instruction -- basic lessons for those new to this and those who don't go off-pavement very often, and more advanced drills for those who've done this before or ride off-pavement regularly. The goal is to improve the skills you already have and make off-pavement riding more fun and less intimidating.
We'll provide the location, the instructors, the box lunch, and all the water and fluids. You'll need to provide your GS-style bike (other brands are acceptable, too, but they need to be street-legal dual sports), full riding gear (helmet, jacket, pants, boots, and gloves), and a good attitude. Chances are you'll get dirty, you might get wet (this is a rain or shine event), and we can't promise you won't fall down. You may want to think about adding some crash protection to your bike if it doesn't already have it. DOT-legal knobby tires will make the riding easier, but they're not essential. The parts and apparel pros at Morton's BMW can help you select what you'll need.
A special offer for this year's training: If you buy a new GS model BMW from us in either April or May, we'll cover the cost of the training for you! You get a FREE day of training, just for buying your GS from us! If this includes you, contact Steve Anderson directly, rather than registering here, so he can enroll you separately.
Your class will be led by Jack Heric, a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure rider and experienced motorcycle instructor. Jack runs the MSF program at Germanna Community College, and is called upon frequently to instruct other rider coaches nationwide. During his time in the U.S. Marine Corps, he provided off-road rider training and was involved in the military's diesel motorcycle program. He is also a graduate of BMW's off-road school at the Performance Center in Greer, SC. Suffice to say, the man knows his stuff! Jack and his team will take very good care of you.
So, all that's left is for you to register online and start preparing for some good dirty fun!
NOTE: If you try to register and find the event is full, drop a note to Steve Anderson and he'll put you on the waiting list. If there are cancellations, riders will be added in the order in which their e-mail was received.
