Introduction to Electrical Project Supervision
Level 1  - Foreman Training

The 5-night program is designed to give beginning foremen the skills they need to deal with the broad range of issues they face on the job.  New or soon-to-be foremen who have not previously attended Foremen Training should register. Space is limited, so make plans to send your key jobsite supervisors.
  • One night per week, 4-7 p.m.
  • Use of PowerPoint presentations.
  • Custom workbook with assignments.
  • 100% attendance is mandatory.
  • Conferences between the instructor and attendee will be via telephone or before class.
  • Earn 1.2 CEU Certificate in "NECA\IBEW Introduction to Project Supervision" from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

CLASS 1 - APRIL 24
Introduction to Project Supervision

  • Program Introduction.
  • Defining the Supervisor's Role: Transition Into Management.
  • Written Communication: Jobsite Documentation.
  • Verbal Communication: Communicating with the Crew.
  • Introduction to Contract Basics.

CLASS 2 - MAY 1

Management Tools for the Supervisor

  • Using the contract to manage.
  • Recognizing out of scope work.
  • Recognizing out of sequence work.
  • Schedule basics.
  • Impact of timely decision making.
CLASS 3 - MAY 8
Setting and Managing Performance
  • Understanding the role the estimate and schedule play in the process as performance baselines and how the supervisor can measure performance.
  • Comparing performance baselines to actual production and how the supervisor can use the schedule and estimate to determine whether the work is on-target.
  • Understanding the importance of leading, motivating team members, and resisting "the urge to do it yourself."
  • How to set and maintain achievable goals for the crew. Recognizing superior performance among the team. Setting realistic milestones for performance.
  • Team building fundamentals and how it relates to on site applications. What to do when someone exhibits non-team behavior. Practical skills for sound leadership.
  • Explore the basics of material purchasing and ordering.
  • Review procedure for tool management. Tracking and maintaining tools and equipment for safe and effective operation.

CLASS 4 - MAY 15

Employee Issues

  • Dealing with different types of employees: cooperative to confrontational.
  • Recognizing impaired personnel and performance. Dealing with substance and alcohol abuse.
  • Functional limitations and authority challenges from co-workers.
  • Issues beyond the project gate.
  • When an employee must go.

CLASS 5 - MAY 22

Industry Issues

  • Understanding the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Dealing with harassment and discrimination issues on the job.

Principal Course Instructor: Wayne DelPico, Wentworth Institute of Technology. Mr. DelPico has been an adjunct faculty at WIT since 2003 and teaches Construction Cost Analysis, Construction Project Finance, Project Control, and Project Scheduling. He has 30 years of experience in private, public, retail, residential, commercial land development and construction. He holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University, where he has also taught courses in Cost Estimating, Project Management, and Project Scheduling. Instruction will include presentations from expert guest presenters.
