Advanced Concussion Training

A free educational event for the central Contra Costa Community

Please join the Sports Legacy Institute's California Concussion Coalition for an Advanced Concussion Training (ACT) for the central Contra Costa community, presented by Eric Freitag, Psy.D., Coalition Co-Chair and Executive Director of the Mt. Diablo Memory Center Sport Concussion Program, Casey Batten, M.D., UC Berkeley Head Team Physician, and Ben Lynch, former Cal Golden Bear and San Francisco 49er.

The ACT will provide the information and inspiration for parents, coaches, administrators, teachers, and concerned community members to keep athletes safe. This training exceeds state law requirements that mandate that high school coaches obtain education on the signs, symptoms, and appropriate response to concussion injuries. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance if needed for their schools.

The 90-minute multimedia presentation will focus on:

  • Concussion basics and concussion recognition
  • Concussion reporting & athlete psychology
  • Appropriate concussion response & evaluation
  • Return-to-play following concussion
  • Coordination of concussion care with school & family
  • Potential academic consequences of concussions
  • Concussion prevention strategies for coaches & athletes
  • Long-term effects of concussions & brain trauma – Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)
  • CTE prevention strategies
  • Review of the latest technologies in the fight against concussions
  • Strategies to create a safer sports environment

*ATCs may receive 1 (one) CME credit for attending.
