Transforming the Way You Play Songs
Conducted by
Ed Mascari
Are you frustrated because your piano playing sounds dull?
Do you feel stuck because you have to play the notes on the page as written?
Would you like to be able to play songs in a style that suits your musical tastes?
If you answered "yes" to one or more of these, then this workshop is for you!
Here's what to Bring
You can bring a piece of sheet music, a Fake Book or
a piano method book such as:
Faber and Faber: Piano Adventures Level 2A, Eckstein Piano Course Book Three, Alfred Piano Method-Level Two, etc.
Here's what we'll do at the workshop
Introducing the technique of how to transform the way you play songs:
Ed Mascari will show you how to identify & write the chord symbols above the treble clef (right hand) staff based on the written notes.
Once Ed explains the basic chord concepts, you and the other participants will each have a chance to show the group a piece of music that you brought.
If you can play some or all of it, that will be terrific.
Here's what we'll do for each person's selected piece:
1. Ed will identify and write the chord names with a pencil in the music
2. Ed will show everyone how the chords sound as accompaniment for the song
3. The person whose piece is being featured, will have a chance to play the song using these chords
4. Using these same chords, Ed wil show you different ways that you can play the song by using a variety of accompaniment patterns.
5. Bonus: If the song will sound good with a drum accompaniment, Ed will show you how to incorporate the rhythm sounds from keyboard in the Studio.
