How can nonviolence work--not only as a guiding philosophy for social change, but also as a daily practice in our homes and workplace? Can the power of nonviolence infuse our daily life, despite our human limitations and ordinary circumstances?

In this seven hour workshop, we’ll explore and practice concrete steps that bring to life the principles linking nonviolence, speech and action.

A vegetarian lunch will be provided.

Miki Kashtan
About the Trainer: Miki Kashtan, PhD, co-founded Bay Area Nonviolent Communication. She is inspired by the role of visionary leadership in shaping a livable future, and works toward that vision by sharing the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication through mediation, meeting facilitation, coaching, consulting, and trainings. She writes a weekly blog (baynvc.blogspot.com), and her articles have appeared in Tikkun magazine and elsewhere.

This workshop is a fundraiser for BayNVC and the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence.

Payment: We are asking for a $25 registration deposit in advance to confirm your spot in this workshop. As that amount will not cover food expenses or Miki's plane ticket from Oakland or reimburse her for her time as a trainer, please plan to contribute additionally at the event in cash or check as you are able. All funds collected will be split between BayNVC and the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence. Thank you for your support!

Parking: Park along Wilson Boulevard in the metered parking (free on weekends) or follow signs to the Library Lot, where parking is also free on the weekend. Here is a map with the Library Lot marked, as well as the path you would walk from the Library Lot to the Chapel where the workshop will be held. To drive to the Library Lot, turn North on Intercampus Drive, which connects to Elmwood Avenue.

Directions to the Library Lot from Elmwood Avenue:

Turn North onto Wilson Blvd.
1st Right on Trustee Road
Left on Intercampus Drive
Go straight. The lot will be on your left.

Walk Southwest from the parking lot around to the front of the Library. Walk across Eastman Quad. You'll see the Chapel directly in front of you across the quad, towards the Genesee River.

Lodging: We recommend Couch Surfing (couchsurfing.org) as the most affordable option. The closest hotel is Staybridge Suites. It is a 10 minute walk from the campus and workshop venue. It is the closest hotel and not the cheapest.
