Run for the Richard Family

Dear Running and Triathlon Community:

As we all are recovering from the senseless terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon last week, many have asked how we as a community can help. We are all one community, as athletes, and much like the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, our group is always looking to help those in need.

For those of us in the New York sports community, the attack hit close to home. Our friends, our families, and our medical colleagues; we all have people who were affected or narrowly escaped the tragedy. One way or another, this event has reached us all.

Those on this distribution list are aware that we started a program called Ironstrength for a Cause as a way to fund raise for non-profit organizations around the area. In the aftermath of this tragedy, we have decided to fund raise for the Richard family of Dorchester. As many are aware, unspeakable tragedy hit this particular family. Their 8 year old son was killed and the daughter and mother are still in critical condition.

The friends of the Richard family in Dorchester, MA, have set up a fund to help the family pay for the expenses that lie ahead of them including funeral costs, medical bills, and the countless other expenses that they will face. I have spoken with those responsible for administering the fund and I am confident that this is a valid charity. This family needs our help.

Please join the members of our Ironstrength for a Cause Committee at the bandshell in Central Park at 6:15 AM for a brief ceremony and 2 mile jog/walk around the lower loop of Central Park. We are asking that everyone who comes make a donation to the Richard family. You can access the fund here. We are asking for $25 per person but please donate what you’d like, anything is most appreciated.

We are also asking that you please help us spread the word about this event through Facebook or Twitter. Please to make sure and send this link and tell everyone who wants to join us to please RSVP so we can track the numbers of runners/walkers.

This has been a tragedy for all of us. On behalf of our committee, thank you so much for helping out the Richards family in this time of need.
