About the Presenter: Kevin Metz, an Akron native, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Akron, a M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University and a Certificate in Gerontology from The University of Akron. He has worked for over thirty years in the field of developmental disabilities. Kevin has been actively involved with the DSPATHS program for the past 10 years and has served as the Director of Statewide Operations for OADSP since the summer of 2012. He is also employed by the Stark County Medical Society as the Executive Director.
OADSP Initial Provider Certification
Initial Provider Certification Seminar (8hrs)
The 8 hour OADSP Initial Provider Certification seminar lays the foundation for acquiring the information and skills that all new providers of Ohio Medicaid Waiver services need to provide competent services and supports to people with developmental disabilities. All providers of direct services to people with developmental disabilities in the state of Ohio must obtain certification from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) before providing services. This certification enables the provider to deliver Medicaid Waiver Services under the Level One and Individual Options Waivers, as well as non-Medicaid funded services. All providers of direct services must complete eight hours of training in specific topics prior to applying for certification. The 8 hour OADSP Initial Provider Certification seminar meets all DODD training requirements for new providers in a high quality and comprehensive manner.
The seminar consists of 2 four hour sections. Attend all day (8hrs) or either the AM (4hrs) of PM Session (4hrs)!
Section one from 8.30am - 12.30pm covers the topics:
- Overview of Serving Individuals With Developmental Disabilities
- Basic Principles and Requirements Of Providing Waiver Services
- Incidents Adversely Affecting Health and Safety: MUI and UIs Incidents
- Providing Behavioral Supports and Principles Of Positive Intervention Culture
Section two from 1.00pm - 5.00pm covers the topics:
- Self Determination and Ethical Direct Support Practice
- Rights of Individuals Served
- Universal Precautions and Infection Control
- Fire Safety and Emergency Precautions
Cost: $45 for am or pm session, $75 for both!

Continuing Education: This seminar has been approved by Ohio DODD for 8 hrs of CPDU's.
Lunch: Due to time constraints, there will only be a 30 min lunch break from 12.30pm -1.00pm.
