Preparing for Patagonia

Learn from the world’s leading high latitudes cruising sailor
Planning, preparation and places in Patagonia
Sunday 15 September 2013, 10am to 12 noon

in association with

Renowned expedition leader and high latitudes sailor Skip Novak will be sharing his knowledge, gained from 25 seasons sailing in southern latitudes, with cruising sailors at a special presentation in Southampton on 15 September. The “Preparing for Patagonia” lecture will focus on how to prepare boats and crew for the rigorous conditions encountered when cruising around the tip of South America.

The two hour presentation will cover aspects of planning your voyage, the practicalities of cruising the region and an overview of some of the places on the route. Free to attend for World ARC sailors, the event is also open to other interested sailors wishing to learn more about cruising Patagonia.

World ARC 2015 - South America

The 2015 World ARC round-the-world sailing rally will have the option of a southern “cold water route” taking on the adventure of rounding the southern tip of South America. The chosen route will see boats depart from Portugal in late September via Madeira, the Canary Islands and the Cape Verdes, crossing the Atlantic and the Equator to Brazil. November and December will be spent heading south via Uruguay, Argentina, with New Year in the Beagle Channel and Chilean Canals. With over two months to cruise the region there will be plenty of time to explore this unique wilderness, and for the more adventurous crews, an opportunity to “round the Horn” with a voyage out around Cape Horn Island. Early March will see boats heading towards warmer waters again, from Chile to French Polynesia via the mysterious Easter Island, Pitcairn and Gambier, before cruising the Tuamotos to Tahiti.
