J-cycle is a bicycle tour of Detroit designed to celebrate the exciting developments happening in and around Detroit, while exploring the city’s rich Jewish history in an up close and personal way.  A coalition of organizations have come together to present this event, now in its third year, to highlight the contributions of the Jewish community, past and present, who’ve enriched our culture and history.

This year's route begins inside of the lovely Palmer Park, located between McNichols and Seven Mile Roads, just west of Woodward Avenue. Our route includes eight stops, including the former Temple Israel, Ahavas Achim and Adat Shalom synagogues, the Northwest Activities Center and the new Mumford High. The gardens of two homes are on our tour, as is the little known "segregation wall," erected in 1940 as a means to separate homes planned for middle-class whites from blacks who had already built small houses or owned land with plans to build. Despite this ominous beginning, residents have maintained the wall and turned it into a symbol of inspiration and hope.  (Read more on the wall at: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2317537/Detroits-wall-racism-Six-foot-barrier-kept-black-children-away-middle-class-whites-chilling-reminder-segregated-America.html#ixzz2WUR46uJK).

The ride begins and ends in Palmer Park.  Rider check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. with the first groups leaving at 9 a.m.  We will gather together at the conclusion of the ride for lunch (Kosher).  The 14-mile ride is expected to take 3 hours.

The ride will take place rain or shine.  Sorry, no refunds.

Bike helmets MUST be worn.
Riders will not be allowed to ride without a helmet.

All riders must be registered in advance and check in at the registration desk on event day.  Check in opens at 8:30 a.m. The first groups will depart at 9 a.m.

Come prepared to meet people and have fun.
