Neighborhood Alliance promotes Oklahoma’s own brand of neighborhood party: Neighbors Night Out, set for Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
Hosted by Neighborhood Alliance, Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma City Fire Department, and local Target Stores, thousands of OKC-Metro Area citizens at over 60 Neighborhood Events are expected to celebrate Neighbors Night Out this year. In years past this event was held in August and known as “National Night Out” however, for the fifth straight year, Oklahoma City is hosting their neighborhood celebrations in September in hopes of more temperate weather. We would like to encourage neighborhoods and municipal entities throughout Oklahoma to join in celebrating Neighbors Night Out in an effort to allow citizens to work alongside public safety officers to curb neighborhood crime, gang and drug activity.
Neighbors Night Out Is a great excuse for neighbors to reach out to each other and for social bonds, makng their neighborhood and our community stronger," said Jennifer Meckling, Programs Coordinator of Neighborhood Alliance. "Communicating with each other and getting involved in the our community is how it's meant to work."
“Active, social neighborhoods have less crime, higher property values and healthier residents,” said Georgie Rasco, Executive Director of Neighborhood Alliance. “Use this event to get your neighbors out of their houses and talking to each other. Let your neighbors know that you are watching out for them, and they’ll do the same for you.”
Neighborhood events always run the gamut from huge parties with DJ’s, face-painting, catered dinners and visits from the Air National Guard to more low-key picnics with a little watermelon and iced-tea. If your neighborhood is not planning an event, you can step up and plan your own. Download our planning packet for information and ideas to help you plan your event. Registered events will be noted in a master list, complete with contact information and maps to events, and distributed to local police, fire and government personnel who will be making visits to registered events throughout the evening.
