Navigating Crisis: How to Get Through a Mess
With Eric Russell
Friday, September 20, 12 - 1:30 p.m.
Crisis happen any day, anywhere and to any one - no one is immune. They happen at work, at home, at play and at the most inconvenient times. It isn’t a matter of if it will happen, but when and how we will respond. Are you ready?
I don’t believe in crisis management, they really can’t be managed - that’s why it’s called a crisis. However, crisis can be navigated so that we get to shore safely.
Assessing the problem correctly, combined with the right responses to it significantly increase the likelihood of faster resolution of the crisis and safe passage through it. There are steps to take before and during a crisis that can calm panic, restore confidence and resolve problems. Do you know what they are?
This crash course in navigating crisis is based on common sense principles that are all around us but we may fail to apply in the midst of crisis.
Outcomes and activities:
1. Share a personal or professional experience of crisis, and describe what was done to navigate it.
2. Identify the key signs of a crisis.
3. Learn the four actions needed to address a crisis.
4. Design a sample crisis navigation plan.
