FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 1: What They Are (9:00 am - 12:00 pm)
Financial statements are vital to understanding, managing and planning your business. While not every financially astute small business owner succeeds, ignorance of accounting fundamentals only makes business management more difficult.
Designed for the accounting novice, this class develops the fundamental framework necessary for understanding the primary financial statements used by small business managers.
Students' specific business questions can be addressed at the end of the class and during the lunch hour.
FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 2: How to Use Them (1:00 - 4:00 pm)
Have the numbers in your financial statements always been a mystery to you? Many businesses have failed simply because the owners did not understand what their financial statements were telling them.
Your financial statements provide an invaluable feedback mechanism showing the results of your business decisions, and they help you determine further questions you should be asking yourself and what corrective actions you might need to take.
Learn how to read the story that your business’ financial statements are telling you. We’ll sift through the myriad numbers to discover the relevant information that is vital to your running a successful business. You’ll make more informed and better business decisions once you understand what’s really happening in your business.
If you’re already in business or have projected financial statements for a new business, bring your current or projected financial statements with you and, time permitting, SCORE mentors will be available after the workshop to help you understand them.
John Batt is with SCORE and mentors clients in the areas of accounting, administration and product distribution. He’s also experienced in accounting for export of consumer products. John is experienced in the due diligence required in the acquisition process.
Tom Baumann is with SCORE and mentors clients in all accounting and finance functions, including securing funding, investor relations and SEC reporting. He has experience with the import of women’s apparel for resale to major retailers and as a manufacturer of hair care products sold to the beauty salon industry.
