Finding Japanese Roots Seminar with Linda Okazaki

1:00 – 2:15: Learn about early Japanese immigration to the US, the political climate and laws of the time, internment camps, post WWII experiences, repatriation and redress. A brief overview of Japanese culture, history and language as it pertains to genealogy will be included. Discover what records are at the National Archives, USCIS, and more.

2:30 – 3:45: The focus will be on documenting your ancestors in Japan, from using the information in the American records to finding your koseki, understanding ohaka and kakocho, plus visiting relatives, cemeteries and temples.

Class size is limited to 30 participants.  Walk-ins will not be admitted.

CGS members are admitted for free. Non-members fee is $20.00* and can be applied towards a CGS membership the day of the class.

This seminar is suitable for all levels.

* Course fee is non-refundable.

If you would like to talk with other people who share the same research interests, please bring a bagged lunch at noon. We will meet in the Sheman room.
