Participants join Deidre Scherer in the gallery with her exhibition Surrounded by Family and Friends, six images which depict individuals in poor health with their caregivers. Each tableau poses multiple situations and different possible endings. After an introduction to the work, each participant chooses a particular image and, while contemplating it, answers a series of questions by writing. Reading or sharing our narrations is facilitated and encouraged.

Objective: To find experiences, beliefs, biases and stories which shape our own empathy. To contemplate the challenges facing families involved in the dying process and to better respond and advocate for their support and needs.
