Please join us to celebrate the pioneering work and significant accomplishments of the Boston Schoolyard Initiative, launched in 1995 as a public-private partnership to transform the city’s schoolyards into dynamic centers for recreation, learning, and community life.
After 18 years, 88 renovated schoolyards, and a combined investment of more than $20 million, the initiative will have reached every feasible elementary and K-8 school in Boston. We will honor those who came together to launch this initiative 18 years ago, and the thousands of educators, community leaders, parents, neighbors, funders, partners, landscape architects, and countless others who have helped make this vision a reality over the course of the initiative. The event will feature remarks by Mayor Menino, Interim Superintendent McDonough, representatives of the Boston Schoolyard Funders Collaborative and a ribbon-cutting for the new schoolyard and outdoor classroom at the Higginson-Lewis K-8 School in Roxbury.
As the Boston Schoolyard Funders Collaborative concludes its involvement in the initiative and Mayor Menino prepares to complete his tenure as mayor, we look forward to seeing how Boston will build on the fantastic foundation we have created together. We hope you will join us for this special occasion!
And please invite others who have been involved along the way!
