Mastering the Matrix: Compassion with Passion

This 4-webinar training series (Sep. 17 & 24, October 1 & 8) with a maximum of 7 people in the class.

Are you ready to take your skills to the next level, ward off burnout and move toward passion at the same time?

Would you like to seamlessly integrate all that you have learned during your career into one, easy to deliver package?

Would you like to almost always respond 'Toward' psychological flexibility (the ability to shift perspective and be fully aware of the present moment while choosing life affirming actions).

Would you like to learn in a warm, caring and friendly (and at times funny) environment?

During the Mastering the Matrix Class you will learn how to almost instantly respond to individual words and phrases to loosen ‘stuck’ stories.

You will learn how to 'hear' stuckness and respond to the stuckness with kindness, respect and compassion.

In small groups you will bounce ideas off of fellow Mastering the Matrix students (and Kevin). Everyone will be listening for flexibility and deriving new psychologically flexible interventions. (Almost guranteed, we will create new interventions no one has thought of before. That's the nature of this work.)

Small 'Matrix' groups like this are like practicing with a jazz band; trying new riffs to make old songs sound even better, and then new songs emerge out of the process.

During class 1 we will review the Matrix diagram and connect it to the philosophy and theory behind the Psychological Flexibility Model (ACT).

Going back to the Jazz Music metaphor....

During class 1 you will be going from the basic song of the Matrix (which sounds great) and advance to “Music Theory” so you will know why the Matrix sounds so great to the human mind. Along the way you will be learning how to “hear” psychological flexibility, like a Jazz musician hearing music and improvising.

During class 2 you will deepen your knowledge of Functional Contextualism (FC) and Relational Frame Theory (RFT). We will also run through the ACT Hexaflex. Then you will learn why basic Sorting, Yes...Anding and staying in context eliminates the need for complexity such as the Hexaflex.

During class 3 (and maybe in session 1 and 2) we will start the “Jazz Riffs” of the Matrix; taking what anyone says at any time and spinning it into a flexibility enhancing experience for everyone in the room. 'Spinning' psychological flexibility will become second nature to you.

Class 4: Now we have reached the beginning of Verbal Aikido -- the ability to spin psychological flexibility during what others might experience as horrifically stuck situations. We will practice visualizing the process of flexibly responding to language.

Through all of this training, we will role play your clients, your presentations, and, well, any situation you want to role play. You can role play in session one, try out what we role played, and then discuss it in session two. Whatever works for you.

Each Matrix Master Class is limited to seven participants.

All the classes will be recorded and you will get a link to the recordings.

Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions:

Remember:

You will learn:

  • How to set up the Matrix for maximum effect,
  • How to take any word or phrase and transform it toward psychological flexibility,
  • How to use your own stuck points to maximize psychological flexibility,
  • How to use the energy being used for struggling with pain to drive increasing psychological flexibility.

Who is this course for? Professionals and Students who want to achieve expert level at influencing others toward psychological flexibility and passion. This is a martial arts way of dealing with stuck words, phrases and stories. This series is for people willing to reap the benefits of practicing.

Steve Hayes, co-founder of ACT says, “The Matrix opens the door to ACT in a way that is direct, simple, and useful. Kevin is not just its developer: he a master in its use. He lays down a great foundation for a more psychologically flexible approach to life and work.”

Your Presenter: Kevin Polk has over twenty thousand hours devoted to learning and teaching psychological flexibility. He uses the Matrix diagram and a few words as a martial arts form of influencing others toward psychological flexibility. However, there is no mysticism here--it's all basic learning theory applied to psychological flexibility and valued living. (It's also way fun.) Dr. Polk is also a peer-reviewed ACT trainer who sometimes even goes out in public to make these presentations. Those presentations lead to him being called "The Wild Man of ACT." Come join the fun.
