You are invited to a special tour of four private homes and gardens, plus the historic Sikes Adobe Farmstead.
Escondido has a large collection of adobe homes. The Adobe Block Company was an Escondido company that produced millions of bricks for builders all over the region. The well known Weir Bros. Construction company speciailized in adobe block homes with unconventional featuers; it was also located in Escondido. The home Jack Weir built for his own family (seen above) is featured on this tour. Other homes on the tour include one that the Weir Bros. significantly expanded ten years after it was built and another home that was built with an adobe facade over more conventional construction. Also featured is a lovely home was built by an owner- builder in the Weir style. And last but not least, visit the historic Sikes Adobe Farmstead, a museum restored to showcase it's most significant time period: 1869-1899.
