Visitor Parking Easier With E-Permits
The NMSU Parking Office has launched a new service aimed at making it easier for occasional visitors to obtain single-day parking permits before they even arrive on campus. By logging onto NMSUparking.com/visitor.htm visitors can find out about their various parking options (as well as a host of other features, including parking maps and directions).
Users can enter their own information on the website, then receive and print out the permit on their own printer. When they arrive on campus, they are already set up with the necessary parking permit. It is that easy!

About the HAZWOPER Refresher
The HAZWOPER Refresher course is an 8-hour, one day class. The HAZWOPER refresher course re-certifies and maintains competencies learned in the HAZWOPER 24-hour or 40-hour courses and must be taken annually.
Our version of this course includes problem-based scenarios customized to situations that may be encountered on or near the NMSU campus. These include a chemical spill, a radiological emergency, a bloodborne pathogen event, and an emergency involving electrocution. More importantly, we elegantly organized this course to satisfy 5 distinct regulatory standards. You will learn the similarities and differences found in the training requirements of the following regulations:
A certificate documenting participation in this 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher will be provided at the end of the day.
About the EH&S Academy
Amazing as it may seem, virtually none of the EH&S staff that provide support to the 4,700 colleges and universities in the US ever received formal academic instruction on how universities function and how EH&S programs might serve to further the mission of their institution. This situation is due in large part to the absence of available training in this area. In 1996, the University of Texas System EH&S Academy was created with support from a grant from NIOSH to provide individuals with training on the breadth of health and safety issues inherent to the university work environment to instill an understanding of how universities operate and how to operate a successful EH&S programs within these organizations.
The original 40-hour version of the course has been very successful, providing training to thousands of individuals from across Texas and the nation. The popularity of the EH&S Academy subsequently led to requests for the on-site delivery of condensed versions of the course to train existing staff on key elements, such as what programmatic measures are important, how universities operate, and the special needs of faculty. This two-day course will provide a condensed version of the Academy, covering topics identified as being particularly useful and timely, as judged by recent course participants. The topics covered will include a wide array of operational aspects in decision making. The sessions are designed to be very interactive and ample time will be allocated for questions and discussion.
