White Privilege
Join us as we study essays from “White Privilege: Essential Readings on the Other Side of Racism.” We’ll analyze white privilege and examine ways to combat racism and related forms of inequality. Although a surprising number of people claim that racism is a thing of the past, we’ll discuss the many ways that white privilege is built into our society. Class facilitators: Rev. Susan Sprague and Louise Lynch, a member of Wesley UMC.

Methodism 101
All of the questions you’ve ever had about United Methodism will be on the table during this course. We’ll discuss United Methodist doctrine and beliefs, theology, history, social principles and more. Class facilitator: Rev. George Ricker, UUMC’s Pastor Emeritus and a notable voice of liberal Methodism.

The Radical Women in Jesus' Family Tree
Genealogy is important in the birth narrative of Jesus. In Luke, women are  prominent in the first Christmas. In Matthew, we find four women, all non-Jews, listed in Jesus’ family tree. We’ll explore the stories of these women and how they provide important frameworks for understanding Jesus. Class facilitator: Rev. Bill Frisbie.

Painting the Stars
View and discuss the popular DVD series “Painting the Stars: Science, Religion and an Evolving Faith.” These videos celebrate the communion of science and faith, and explore the promise of evolutionary Christian spirituality from the perspective of leading theologians and progressive thinkers. Class facilitators: UMC members Marsha Whitton and Judy Baskin.
