Working the Core

Accelerate Institute and the Alain Locke Charter School invite you to join us for a free conference - "Working the Core" – in which we will share lessons learned from three years of successfully implementing the Common Core and have a discussion on tangible implementation strategies for your school.

Whether you are in year three of implementing the Common Core or have not started implementation, school leaders will leave this workshop with real world tactics for helping your school implement the Common Core.

Presenters:

Patrick Love, Principal of Alain Locke Charter School

Patrick has served as principal at Alain Locke for the past two years. In this capacity, Patrick has maintained the school’s high level of achievement with students and led a successful transition to full alignment with the Common Core State Standards at every grade level.   Prior to coming to Alain Locke, Patrick co-founded Galapagos Charter School and served as the Executive Director of Academics. At Galapagos, Patrick oversaw a 14% composite increase on the ISAT.  Patrick  has also served as the Founding Principal of the third LEARN campus located in the East Garfield neighborhood.  At LEARN 3rd Campus, he implemented an academic model which resulted in all grade levels being in the 90th percentile rank or higher for academic growth in both reading and math.   He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Elementary Education.

Catherine Rich, Managing Director of The Ryan Fellowship

Catherine  oversees the education, training and development of The Ryan Fellowship program, a school leadership program that identifies and develops transformational school principals with expertise in accelerating student achievement.   Catherine  designed and implemented the curriculum for The Ryan Fellowship coursework.  Previously, Catherine served as Founding Director of UNO –Bartolome de Las Casas Charter School for four years. Throughout Catherine’s tenure at UNO, her leadership strengths proved to yield consistent success, increasing proficiency levels on state test scores each year and outperforming neighborhood schools.  Catherine has received her Doctorate of Education in Education Leadership at Roosevelt University.

Alain Locke Charter School is the number rated K-8 charter school serving African American students in Chicago.

For over 20 years the Accelerate Institute has been working to close the achievement gap by creating high impact school leaders that accelerate student achievement.  This is accomplished through the Ryan Fellowship, the ICTC Leadership Academy, the Ryan Awards and sharing lessons learned from Alain Locke Charter School.
