Combating Sex Trafficking in S. Florida

Tuesday, Jan 21, 2014    9:30 am - 2:30 pm

Temple Torah of W. Boynton Beach, FL

This educational forum will examine the extent of sex trafficking in South Florida, and explore how the Jewish community, in cooperation with anti-trafficking groups in Palm Beach County, can help combat this problem and protect Florida’s children.

Did you know:

  • As many as 4 million individuals, primarily women and children, are trafficked as part of a $20 billion dollar annual business
  • Florida ranks among the top 3 states for human trafficking
  • 4 out of 5 victims in sex trafficking cases in the U.S are American citizens
  • The average age of a girl who is sex trafficked is 13

This FREE SYMPOSIUM is open to the PUBLIC. It will spotlight the hidden, but growing problem of sex trafficking of minors in Florida.

You must register by January 14th.
The registration button is below.

NO WALK-INS PLEASE

Topics of discussion will include:

  • how to identify a victim of sex trafficking and find help
  • the current state of anti-trafficking laws in Florida
  • an action plan: community service, awareness and advocacy

There will be presentations by several experts in the field, including:

We are delighted to announce that the YWCA of Palm Beach County recently made a generous donation to partially underwrite the cost of lunches during the symposium! This is a wonderful boost to our efforts. This means you do not have to pay for your lunch.  Perhaps you will consider a $10 donation the day of the event instead. You must register below to be assured a lunch.

The Human Trafficking Coalition of the Palm Beaches, one of our sponsors, provides backpacks for immediate needs to those rescued from sex traffickers. In particular, items needed are:

  • travel size toiletries, toothpaste and tooth brushes, small blankets, flip-flops, socks
  • $5 gift cards for fast food restaurants
  • school supplies: notebooks, pencils and cases, erasers, crayons and coloring books, word search and crossword puzzle books.

Your donation will help purchase these items.  We will also collect these items at the symposium.

Please be sure to register by clicking on the button below.  We need to know how many lunches to order.  Each attendee must register individually.
Please note that the synagogue requires that all food on premises be certified kosher. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation
Click on the quantity box on the registration page to order lunch.

You will see a confirmation message immediately after successfully completing your registration and lunch order.  You will also receive an email confirmation. Be sure to check your spam/junk folder for the confirmation email.
