This month's event: Giving The Gift of Health - An Overview Of Intervention Models

Louise A Stanger ED.D, LCSW, BRI II

Dr. Stanger has over thirty years experience as a college professor, researcher and licensed clinician working with families and  individuals who experience substance abuse and mental health disorders. She serves as the Director of All About Interventions. and has been performing Collaborative Interventions with families since 1980.  She  continues to explore the efficacy of treatment strategies such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused Coaching, Family Systems and 12 Step Facilitation.

Course Abstract

An intervention is all of its many forms and iterations is an invitation for clients and their families to seek health care treatment so that there lives may be enriched. While much has been written and talked about on TV, licensed mental health and health providers do interventions everyday in residential settings, crisis clinics, government offices, private practices and hospital settings. We as licensed professionals (MDs, general and Psychiatrists, Certified Alcohol Counselors, Certified Rehabilitation Counselors, Psychologists, Nurses, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Counselors) are always inviting our clients to explore ways to improve their lives. We try to empower them to be the captains of their well-being. An intervention is merely an invitation to seek additional care. Viewed in this way, it does not become a drama, but rather a reality of everyday practice.

This Presentation will give the Practitioner an overview of current day Intervention Models :Johnson Model ( Jay) ,  Motivational (Storti) Arise (Landau and Garret), Systemic ( Ratiner ), Breakthrough ( Lamm) and  Stanger Process. The  presentation will further explore the evidence modalities ( Family Systems, CBT, MI, SFT, 12 Step, Smart Recovery  ) used in moving families towards health.

Course Objectives

1. To acquaint participants with the Basic Assumptions of Healthy Families and Family Systems  (Minichun, Family Mapping, McGodrick)
