IS YOUR SCHOOL SAFETY PLAN UP-TO-DATE?
California schools are required to review their School Safety Plans annually to be sure that plans are responsive to emerging safety concerns. This full-day workshop provides participants with the opportunity to take an in-depth look at all aspects of school safety including new legislative mandates. Participants will learn the required elements of a school safety plan; discuss ways to use data to inform the plan; how to involve stakeholders in the planning process; and how to communicate the plan to the school community.
Please bring your most recent School Safety Plan to the workshop. Safe school plans are most comprehensive when developed collaboratively. We recommend that participating sites attend the training in teams that include a site or district administrator. You will have the opportunity during the workshop to work on your plan with your team.
Participants will learn about:
*The required elements of a comprehensive school safety plan per Education Code 32280-32289
*The use of data to assess school safety issues and identify appropriate safety strategies
*Involving a broad range of stakeholders, including parents and students, in the safe school planning
process
*How to communicate the plan to my school board and to the community
*How to use the plan to create a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning
BRINGING A SCHOOL TEAM
Effective safe school planning requires the participation of teachers, other school day staff, after school staff, parents, students, law enforcement, School Resource Officers (SROs), and the community. We recommend that participating teams be comprised of three to five people representing these school-community partnerships
