The Heart of Peer Helping

Dive deeper into the power young people possess to help one another and make a difference in their world! The 2014 National Peer Program Conference, Heart of Peer Helping, provides a forum for the adult leaders of youth peer helper/listener programs. The conference, presented by the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation, offers training, education, best practices, ideas, resources and networking. Educators, counselors, mental health practitioners, school administrators, non-profit professionals and others can learn how to establish, maintain or energize a peer program for their schools or community agencies.  

* National Board for Certified Counselors continuing education credit is pending.

Conference Layout and Fees - 2 Options:
Option 1 - $375: 3 Days - Day1 is a 6 hour course. Day 2 & 3 feature general sessions and breakout sessions.

Option 2
- $275: 2 Days - Both days features general sessions and breakout sessions.

Day 1: Monday, February 10 - Registration 8:00 am, tracks run simultaneously 9 am – 4:15 pm.
Day 2: Tuesday, February 11 - Registration 7:00 am, General Session 8:00 am, Breakout Sessions begin 9:00 am, end 4:00 pm.
Day 3: Wednesday, February 12 - Sessions begin 8:00 am, conference closes 11:45 am.

Day 1 Course Tracks Overview:
Track 101 - Building a Peer Program from the Ground Up.  Learn how to request approval, establish and implement a peer helping program applying the NAPPP's Standards and Ethics.  * Requirements:  some advance preparation and attendance at NAPPP:  Program Evaluation Tools breakout session on Day 3
   * TIP: Want to introduce and establish a Peer Program? Track 101 – Building a Peer Program from the Ground Up is for you.

Track 201 - Training Active, Effective Peer Helpers.  Learn how to train peer helpers in confidentiality, communication, team-building, group process and more, based on NAPPP Programmatic Standards.
   * TIP: Have a Peer Program and need help getting started or want to improve your skills in training students? Track 201 – Training Active, Effective Peer Helpers will help you gain the confidence and skills needed to kick-off your Peer Program.

Conference Attire: Casual; jeans are perfect! On Tuesday, wear a color of love like red or pink. On Wednesday, wear your Peer Helper from your school or a school shirt.

People’s Choice Award: Submit a 60 second commercial that represents your Peer Program or an aspect of your peer program. I encourage you to let your students take the lead on this. The top 10 videos chosen by the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation Board will be shown during a general session and YOU will have the chance to vote to select the winner. This contest is optional and entries must be received by midnight on Wednesday February 5th by email to events@jennifermoorefoundation.com. Remember it can only be one minute.

 Conference Partnerships:
The conference is supported by the National Association of Peer Program Professionals, and all session credits hours may be utilized toward the fulfillment of NAPPP's Certified Peer Program Educator designation or as continuing education for CPPEs. Attendees who wish to become CPPEs will complete at least 18 hours of conference training and apply to NAPPP directly with a $35.00 fee. Attendees who have previously achieved the CPPE designation are eligible to apply to the Certified Peer Program designation with a $100 fee. Please see the NAPPP website, www.peerprogramprofessionals.org, for complete information about available designations.
