F.A.Q.:
Do I have to bring cans? No. Any non-perishable will do (boxes, cans, pouches, etc). Except for turkeys or other similar protein, we won't be able to accept any other refrigerated/frozen foods.
Can I bring more then 10 cans/non-perishables?Yes!! Please do!!
What kinds of food are in most need? Everything is in need. Supplies really are that low. There are 1.2 million people in NJ that are "food insecure" (the new term for "hungry"), and over 45% do not qualify for government assistance. So a lot of the people who get assistance, these are working people, families, who still don't know where their next meal will come from, or how they will feed their children. Parents who go to work, every day just like you, but still do not have enough money to put feed their their children every day. So everything will help. Here are some things that are always in need:
Where does the Food go? Supplies at local food banks around the country, and in particular NJ, are at an all-time low. This year, we are proud to support the St. Joseph's Food Program. Located in Elizabeth, St. Joseph's feeds Union County families through its food pantry, Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey and food bag distributions, and weekday daily sandwich bags (for those who are heading to work and otherwise wouldn't have a sandwich to eat at lunch). All of the turkeys and cans will go directly to the St. Joseph's food pantry and, more importantly, directly to the table of needy families all over Union County. If you would like to learn more about St. Joseph's programs, click here.
What If I would rather donate money, or make an addiitional donation to the food pantry? If you would like to make an additional donation, please bring a check made payable to the St. Joseph's.
Can I train private/semi-privately during the event? Yes. You will be prompted during registration to indicate how you want to train. So register!
