You might start with your own resources, or receive help from family or friends. Understand the difference between a “gift”, a “loan” and an investment. Be sure to document the arrangement.
Seeking a grant or SBA guarantee? Learn where to look, who may provide one, the conditions and requirements, whether matching funds may be necessary. Find out what is available.
Going to the bank? Learn what the bank will expect from you, the six “C’s” of bank lending, what may be available in the way of collateral or credit enhancement. Know what you will have to do to get a bank loan.
Thinking about attracting investors? Be sure to understand what it means to take on an investor; know what investors look for; learn about an “exit strategy”. Learn whether Crowd Funding makes sense for your business.
