2014 JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award

Dinner & Celebration

Since 2005, Good Shepherd Food Bank has honored the memory of JoAnn Pike, our founder, by saluting an individual, corporation or organization that shares the passion she had for ending hunger in Maine. We are pleased to announce that this year Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger will receive the JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award at our annual dinner on April 3, 2014. We hope that you will join us in honoring this organization that shares your values and commitments.

You are invited to many "special" events so let me explain what makes ours exceptional. The venue is our 54,000 square foot distribution center in Auburn, affording you the opportunity for a truly behind-the-scenes look at the facility that allows us to distribute 15 million pounds of food a year to our hunger relief partners. Functioning on most days as a warehouse, on April 3 it will be transformed into a fine dining room.

Your dinner will be almost as original as the venue. The meal, prepared by well-known local chefs who donate their time, will feature foods provided by local farms and food producers who participate in our Mainers Feeding Mainers program, which enables us to supply our partner hunger relief programs with fresh, local produce, cheese, fish and other nutritious foods at low or no cost.

Each year, Maine's credit unions work collectively to raise money for hunger relief efforts in our state through their Campaign for Ending Hunger. Since 1990, Maine's credit unions have raised $4.8 million and 100 percent of these donations have gone directly to help end hunger in Maine. We look forward to the opportunity to honor Maine Credit Union League and the many credit union employees across the state for their dedication and support of this mission.

We look forward to welcoming you on April 3. Julie Guerette, our special events manager, is available to answer questions. If you wish to contact her directly, she can be reached at (207) 782.3554 x 1164 or by email at jsexton@gsfb.org.
