Mental Health Frist Aid Training - Clergy Only

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour public education program that introduces non-healthcare professionals to information that will help identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and chemical dependency disorders. Training is offered on the following:

  • Mental illnesses and associated disorders,
  • Risk factors and warning signs related to mental health,
  • The impact of mental illnesses to families and communities, and
  • An overview of common treatment approaches

Just as CPR and first aid are intended to help an injured person before proper medical treatment can be provided and are performed by a non-medical professional, Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach the public key skills to help someone developing a mental health problem or crisis.

Participants who complete the 8-hour certification course learn a five-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
