Leadership Workshop for Nurse Leaders in Long Term Care

When is the workshop being held?

The 5-day workshop will be held May 22-23, 2014, and May 28-30, 2014, at the Lowry Conference Center at 1061 Akron Way, Denver, CO 80230.  The seminar will be held from 7:30 am – 4:30 pm each day and participants are expected to attend all five days of the workshop.  There is an administrative fee of $100 to attend.  This fee is to cover material expenses excluded from the federal grant.  Breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided each day.

What will I learn in this course?

Leaders from our very first Long Term Care workshop described this course as "life-changing!" and stated, "This was exactly what I needed at this point in my career." Come join us for an interactive, dynamic experience to learn about yourself and how to lead your team in creative ways.

You will develop greater skills and expertise in change management, diversity and culture, effective communication, conflict resolution and creating excellence in the workplace. In addition, content specific to long term care will be presented by expert faculty, including end of life issues, culture change, preparing for regulatory visits, quality assurance and generational issues.

By the end of the workshop, you will be prepared to develop a capstone project to be conducted and completed over the following twelve months.  You will receive support through this process and with the integration of your new skills through weekly conversations with your coach.

What will I need to do to prepare for the course?

There are three steps to prepare for this course:

  1. Recruit a coach to attend the Intro to Coaching class.  Your coach will meet with you weekly, in person or over the phone, after the Leadership course to support you in developing your new skills.  Your coach cannot be your direct supervisor, but can be someone else in your organization or from the community.  He or she should be in an executive level position and be someone you are comfortable talking openly with.
  2. After registration, you will receive an email regarding the LPI 360.  You need to take the short, online Leadership Practices Inventory survey, that takes 15 minutes to complete.  You will need to invite 3 direct reports, 3 peers and 1 supervisor to complete surveys for you as well (7 observers in total).  Now is a good time to start thinking about who you would like to ask for feedback.
  3. You will also receive a short book in your mail, and homework assignments, via email,  after you register. These all need to be completed before the first day of the workshop.

Long Term Care Didactic Workshop Registration and Financial Policies

Registration is not considered complete until payment is received.  The due date for payment will be one week before the workshop.  If payment has not been received by that date, the registration will be released.  If payment is received in the last week AND there is space available the participant may join the class.  If payment has not been received by the day of class, the participant will not be allowed to attend, even if space is available.

Cancellation

  • Cancellation for any reason that occurs more than 30 days from the first day of the course will result in a 100% refund.
  • Cancellation that occurs less than 30 days but before the first day of the course will incur a $25 cancellation fee.
  • If a registered leader begins the LPI assessment tool online, but then does not complete the course, they will be responsible for compensating the Center for the cost of the LPI, $119.

Attendance

The administration fee for the 2014 workshops will be $100 for LTC Leadership, $40 for LTC Coaching.   Participants must be present for all hours of the five day workshop.  For a “no-show” or if a participant misses more than 4 hours, they will not be allowed to continue in the course.  There will be no partial make-up arrangements made and no refund of tuition funds will occur.
