Key Take-Aways January 2014

WHAT MAKES A GOOD CORPORATE STORY?

1.) The sense of a Corporate Story is 'stickiness'. The Story must be remembered. Most of the people are full of information and have a hard time remembering everything. PPTs and strategy papers do not help anymore.

2.) A 'sticky' Story has the following characteristics:
a) you can see the protagonist or witness,
b) simplifications, short periods, geography (December 31, Zurich, Shop, ...),
c) familiar elements and positive connotations such as environment, characters, people (The Daltons),
d) moments of surprises and unexpected changes,
e) 'absurd ideas' or crossing of frontiers (diamonds in toothpaste),
f) personal aspects (my project has been stopped).

3.) Humor helps to nicely wrap bitter lessons ('Nie wieder Prosecco', Martin Suter).

SUGGESTIONS:

Our life is full of Stories even if we don't recognise them as such. Observe your everyday life and find stories with the pattern mentioned above. Try to tell the stories and practise the Arts of 'telling' strategic messages. People will remember it. And don't forget: 140 million tweets are posted every day. If you manage to tell your story in a Tweet your are unbeatable.
