Deciding When to Retire:  What You Need to Know

Should you:

Retire at age 55? 60? 62? 65? 70?  Never?

Take an early buyout, if offered?

Work longer as a hedge against an uncertain economy?

What if you are forced to retire?

Funding cutbacks in education are affecting more than tuition rates and teacher-student ratios.  They are hitting closer to home for teachers and college faculty at all levels, shattering retirement plans and creating uncertainty for individual and family personal finances.

"Buyouts" of teachers, Cooperative Extension agents, and university faculty are not uncommon, the future viability of promised pension plans and retiree health benefits is under  scrutiny, the stock market continues to zig and zag, and the economy remains shaky.  With this perfect storm of factors, it is more important than ever that you know everything you can about available retirement options, creative retirement strategies, sources of retirement income, and how to prepare for the emotional aspects of this life-changing transition.

Hear firsthand from a 33-year FCS professional and Extension Specialist in Financial Resource Management how to make the best decision for you and your family at this educational webinar (1.5 PDUs):

Although the retirement landscape has changed dramatically in just a few short years, it is still entirely possible to set yourself up for success--both financially and personally. But you need to be as well informed as possible.

In this 90-minute program including Q&A, you will explore:

  • Key factors that affect the retirement planning process
  • Tax laws related to retirement savings plans
  • Social Security eligibility requirements and benefits
  • Advantages and disadvantages of early retirement
  • How to evaluate an early retirement incentive (buyout) offer

Plus, Dr. O'Neill's holistic approach will cover retirement grief models, typical expectations of the retired lifestyle, how to stay fulfilled, and many other aspects that go for beyond the checkbook realities.

After this webinar, you will be able to apply the information provided to personal retirement planning decisions, review retirement planning resources that are shared, calculate the amount of money you need to save for retirement, and be ready for the next phase of your life.
