Kickin’ It Up Notch: Diving Deeper to Improve Student Literacy Learning of the Kentucky Core Academic Standards (K-8)

Speaker: Lisa King

Target Audience:

Primary, Intermediate, Middle teachers, special education teachers K-8, Curriculum Resource Teachers, Instructional Coaches and Administrators

So you have unpacked the standards, mapped your curriculum, followed your pacing guide, written learning targets on the board…but still haven’t seen the results in student learning you had anticipated.

Perhaps there is a lack of rigor or congruency from standard to target to assessment?  Perhaps your learning activities, instructional practices and formative or summative assessments don’t quite align with the standards? This sessions is for those who have a good working knowledge of the Kentucky Core Academic Standards but want to dive deeper and get more into instructional practices, student learning activities and formative assessment to kick student performance up a notch!  Participants will leave the session with a process for checking congruency around KCAS, ideas for increasing rigor and matching learning activities to the learning targets and designing formative and summative assessments and a deeper understanding for teaching standards to mastery.
