Hazardous Weather and Flood Preparedness Course

The National Weather Service (NWS) and FEMA developed this course with input from many states and local emergency managers.  It is intended to encourage a proactive response to weather and flooding hazards through close coordination between
emergency managers and the NWS.

This course covers:

  • how the basic elements of weather and flooding  combine to create potential hazards
    in a given area;
  • weather forecast products and how to interpret them; and
  • anticipating hazardous weather for planning, warning, and response purposes.

This course is excellent for local and state emergency managers who plan for or respond to hazardous weather events.

This course would be relevant for almost anyone concerned with weather in their line of work.  For instance, school administrators who have to decide when or if to cancel or delay school openings, municipal managers and/or road crew supervisors who have to respond to  poor weather conditions, police officers who have to work outside even when the weather is bad.

This course is taught by the NWS - Mount Holly Office and is being co-sponsored by the Jacques Cousteau Reserve and the State Police OEM Field Training & Exercise Unit.
