      A Community Forum on Marijuana by the          Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County 

 

How do parents, teens and community members know the truth about today’s marijuana? Hear personal stories and local professionals presenting on the impact marijuana can have on the developing teen brain, academics, mental wellness and more. High school students, parents, young adults and others interested in the community are invited to attend this informational forum.

 

Seating is limited for this event. Online registration has now closed. 

Limited seating is still available, and tickets will be sold at the door for            $15 for adults and $10 for students.

EVENT DETAILS

Laura Yager of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Service Board will facilitate.

Featured speakers will include:

  • Chris Leibowitz – his substance abuse story began with marijuana use at age 13
  • Lori Shapiro – mother of a college-age son now in recovery from multiple drug use
  • Dr. Bill Hauda – emergency room physician on marijuana’s impact on the teen brain
  • George Young – clinician seeing increasing number of teens in counseling for marijuana and other drug use
  • Clarence Jones – FCPS coordinator on marijuana’s impact on academic performance and social/emotional behavior
  • Det. Jim Cox -- FCPD detective on how and where youth access marijuana, the cost, THC count, and synthetic marijuana 

A second forum on legalization will be held in fall 2014.
