OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY ACCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Registration  7:30 AM

Seminar 8:00 AM - Noon

There is no charge to attend and a continental breakfast and lunch are provided by AEI Corporation

The U.S. oil and gas industry is experiencing an economic boom in large part because of new hydraulic fracturing technology combined with horizontal drilling.  In Colorado and the surrounding states of Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas, this has a lot to do with both the ease of drilling and the oil-rich Niobrara shale and Cordell sands stratum in the Denver-Julesburg Basin.  Other parts of the country, including but not limited to North Dakota, Montana, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, and West Virginia, are also seeing increased production.  Along with the growing demand for oil and gas locally and globally comes an increased frequency in accidents.  These accidents typically result in property damage, environmental contamination, large business interruption claims, severe injury, and loss of life.  Not only do they involve fires and explosions, but also include mechanical and structural failures and bodily injury.  Determining why an accident happened is a very important step in identifying root causes and preventing recurrence.  This talk gives a primer on the oil and gas industry, provides examples of the various types of accidents, discusses why these accidents should be investigated, and outlines the proper methodology to follow during an investigation.
