Dr. Jim Delisle

Dr. Delisle has been a teacher of gifted children and those who work on their behalf for more than 30 years. A former classroom teacher, teacher of gifted children, and counselor of gifted adolescents, Jim retired from Kent State University, where he served as Director of undergraduate and graduate programs in gifted education for 25 years. 

Jim has served on the Board of Directors of The National Association for Gifted Children, Duke University Talent Identification Board, Council for Exceptional Children, and The Roeper School for the Gifted.

The author of more than 250 articles and 15 books, Jim's work has been published in multiple languages worldwide. His work has been highlighted in The New York Times, Washington Post, People Magazine and on Oprah!. His book, The Gifted Kids' Survival Guide: A Teen Handbook (with co-author Judy Galbraith) is among the most popular books published in the field of gifted child education, with more than 200,000 copies in print.

Dr. Brian Housand

 Dr. Brian Housand is an assistant professor in the department of  Curriculum and Instruction at East Carolina University where he  teaches classes in the both Elementary Education and Gifted  Education. Dr. Housand earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology  at the University of Connecticut’s National Research Center on the  Gifted and Talented with an emphasis in both gifted education and  instructional technology. He is currently exploring ways in which  technology can enhance the learning environment and striving to  define creative-productive giftedness in a digital age. 

Break Out Sessions - October 5, 6 and 7

Organization of Breakout Sessions

Sunday - Breakout sessions for educators and parents.  

Special workshop for students elementary through middle school presented by Science City and Fort Hays University.

 Monday - Breakout sessions for educators and parents.

Special sessions for administrators.  

Monday Evening - "All STEAMed Up" an informal table session gathering to look at programs and activities benefiting students presented by organizations and gifted facilitators from around the state highlighting differnt activities and lessons.  A light meal and cash bar will be provided.

Tuesday - Breakout sessions for educators and parents.

1) KGTC will have high-quality breakout sessions in all topics related to gifted education stakeholders from parents to administrators and especially teachers.

2) KGTC is promoting a new concept called: "Live Teaching Modules" where the presenter completes an accelerated lesson just like he/she would do with his/her students. Then, hand out and explain any lesson materials or resources the presenter used to do the lesson. Discussions will include suggested modifications based on interest or need of students to the lesson promoted.

Strands this year represent our theme this year of Full STEAM Ahead.  They are:

By using these strands an attendee will be able to plan which breakout sessions provide the information that he or she needs in his or her own situation.

Deadline for presentation proposals is August 1, 2014.  Presenters will be notified of acceptance by August 30, 2014.  Please go to our web site at www.kgtc.org to follow a link for submission of a breakout presentation proposal any day or "All STEAMed Up" table presentation for Monday evening.

College Credit

Payment Options and Instructions 

There are several payment options available to pay your registration fees:

CREDIT CARD - Select the PayPal option to register with your business/district/personal VISA or MasterCard.

CHECK - Select this option to pay by business/district/personal check or to use a Purchase Order.  Please include contact information for the Accounts Payable department or the person in your building who is responsible for payment of fees through Purchase Order.

Cancellations will not be accepted after September 27, 2014 and you will be obligated for payment.

NOTE: Each convention attendee (including students) must complete a registration form individually.  Group registrations are not allowed.

Hotel Reservation Information

You must make hotel reservations directly with the Overland Park Marriott.  You can contact them through Marriott Reservations at 1-800-228-9290 or calling the property directly at 913-451-8000.

All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit or guaranteed with a major credit card.  The Hotel will not hold any reservations unless secured by one of the above methods.

Reservations received by the Hotel prior to 6:00 PM on Monday, September 13, 2014 booked directly at the property (913-451-8000) will be eligible for the KGTC discounted price of $109.00 (plus all applicable taxes) per night by asking for the KGTC discount.  After that time, the KGTC rate is no longer available and the normal room rate for the Hotel will apply.

More Information

Donations in lieu of dues again this year!

  The annual membership fee has been waived by the Board of Directors this year for conference attendees.  In lieu of paying membership fees, each attendee is asked to make a contribution to the KGTC philanthropic project to establish a scholarship fund for gifted high school students with financial need to dual enroll in college classes for which no other scholarships are available. Donations may also be made at the conference.  The annual membership fee will remain $35 if you do not attend the conference.  Membership information is available through the KGTC website at www.kgtc.org.
