Change the Game - New York City
Please join us for a 1.5 day participatory workshop learning how to re-design sports to amplify your program's impact. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce a new approach to sports programming that provides practitioners with tools that will help them better achieve their desired impact. We call this approach Sport System re-Design (SSrD).
SSrD involves looking at the actual structure and design of the whole sport experience and purposefully altering elements that we usually consider fixed. What’s unique about the elements we examine in SSrD is that they are aspects of the sport experience that are universal to everyone involved- the coaches, players, referees, and fans. Making changes to these aspects means changing the sport experience for everyone; it becomes impossible for participants to “not do” that aspect of the game. If the right changes are identified, all participants will get the benefit of that change.
Change the Game is a unique one-and-a-half day participatory conference experience. Conference facilitators guide direct service program practitioners through a creative and participatory process to introduce, define and flesh out the SSrD methodology. The entire conference is a case study in SSrD. Table groups are intentionally created so that participants had the opportunity to work with practitioners facing similar challenges to theirs as well as with people working in dramatically different spaces so that ideas might be shared across traditional boundaries. Participants engage with peers in the field currently at the forefront of this approach. Participants leave the conference with new ideas for their programs and the tools necessary to amplify their impact on youth. This conference is about helping participants make changes to their own program that will get them the outcomes for youth they want to achieve!
This conference is ideal for program directors, executive directors and other program staff with the ability to make broad changes in a program's design and structure.
