Meet your Tour Guide

Mike Adams

Mike is one of the Co-chairs for the Young Friends of Independence.  He currently works for Historic Philadelphia, Inc.(HPI) as the Education Coordinator.  Before working for HPI, Mike was a History Teacher. 

Mike enjoys learning all he can about American History and sharing that knowledge. 

 

Fun fact about Mike - He has been banned from playing Young Friends Quizzo since he earns a perfect score everytime.

 

Join the Friends of Independence National Historical Park and the Young Friends for a  two-hour walking tour through Independence National Historical Park.  This tour will offer participants a chance to learn about three centuries of Philadelphia history at the actual places historical events took place.  During this tour, you will also learn about what the Friends and Young Friends have done, are doing, and will do to help preserve the Park and its history. 

Come out for this free tour and learn about the Park and the meet the people who support it.

Where will we go? 

Starting locationWelcome Park—2nd Street between Chestnut and Walnut Streets, (Fun Fact) Friends/Young Friends members receive a discount of $2 off parking at that garage. (Philadelphia Parking Authority Garage 2nd and Sansom Streets)

The tour will walk through Independence National Historical Park and includes stops at:

  • City Tavern
  • Merchant Exchange Building
  • First Bank of the United States
  • Carpenters’ Hall
  • New Hall Military Museum
  • Todd and Bishop White Houses
  • Second Bank of the United States
  • Library Hall
  • Independence Square

After the tour, the Young Friends  invite everyone to join them for a Happy Hour at one of the local restaurants that surround the park so that we can discuss what we learned. (Restaurant TBA on the day of the Tour) 

While the tour is free, we are asking you to register so we know how many people to expect for the tour.
