The Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation

Surrounded by the beauty of a candle-lit church, with voices chanting the ancient Latin hymn “Tantum Ergo” – “Down in Adoration Falling” – there on the altar He, the Alpha and the Omega, sits quietly, present under the appearance of bread.  Meanwhile, healing and forgiveness are offered to weary travelers yearning to be restored to the grace and friendship of God.

For almost a year now, Saturday night has been coming ALIVE every third weekend of the month at Blessed Sacrament church in Seattle, as Jesus Christ touches the lives of hundreds of young people.  Two sacraments have been the pillars of these gatherings: The Eucharist and Reconciliation. Now we invite the young adults of the Archdiocese of Seattle, to join Dominican Fathers Raphael Mary Salzillo and Lukasz Misko to learn more about these two powerful ways to super-charge your faith.

The retreat will touch on topics such as the Eucharist as a sacrifice, the lived experience of the real presence, the connection between the forgiveness of sin and the worthy reception of the Eucharist, practical suggestions for going to confession, and more. We will pray the Liturgy of the Hours, the universal prayer of the Church, prayed by the Catholics throughout the world in every language.  And of course, there will be time for adoration, confession and fellowship with one another, giving thanks to the One who feeds us, heals us, and unites us as members of his mystical body.

About the presenters:

Fr. Raphael Mary Salzillo, O.P. was raised as an Evangelical Protestant before converting to the Catholic faith, partially through the influence of his mother, who was herself raised fundamentalist.  The most imporant factor in Father's conversion to the Faith was a deep desire to receive the Eucharist.  After eight years of studies and formation as a Dominican friar, Fr. Raphael Mary was ordained a priest on May 30th, 2009 and sent to  Seattle for his first assignment at Blessed Sacrament Church and the UW Newman Center.  He is currently working as a graduate student at the University of Notre Dame in the Department of Philosophy. 

Born in Przemysl, Poland, Fr. Lukasz Misko, O.P. is a dynamic Dominican priest, currently serving at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Seattle, and the UW Newman Center. Fr. Lukasz studied philosophy and theology at the Dominican House of Studies in Warsaw and Krakow, and graduated from the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, Poland with a master’s degree in patrology. He has a great love of sacred music, both from the Eastern and Western rites, and is an accomplished musician.
