Program Overview

Psychiatrists in practice are experiencing change at an historic pace. Never before have legal, regulatory, legislative, and economic forces impacted practice delivery and payment so profoundly. The result is an extraordinary surge of new and innovative models. This conference will explore them, and offer opportunities to share effective solutions and strategies. Participants will also learn about coding, new legislative and regulatory barriers and prospects, and review clinical psychopharmacology to improve outcomes for treatment resistant patients. Finally, attendees will hear about APA efforts at a policy level regarding integrated and collaborative care.

Program Objectives  Following attendance, participants will be able to:

  • Review medications and therapies in the context of treatment resistant patients.
  • Differentiate between shared care, integrated care, and collaborative care models.
  • Describe the importance of developing and sustaining the psychiatric and mental health workforce.
  • Recount the Fairview model, the Mankato Hospital model, and the Wilder Model.
  • Describe consultation, and cash-only payment models.
  • Review effective CPT coding for fair and full reimbursement for services.
  • Provide a highlight of the health care legislation debated during the 2014 legislative session with special emphasis on issues of interest to mental health professionals
  • Discuss legislative and regulatory action related to MNsure and the Affordable Care Act.
  • Discuss innovative strategies to support and strengthen psychiatry in Minnesota.
  • Inform MPS strategic planning for effective professional support, empowerment, and representation.
  • Review MPS activities and achievements in 2013.
  • Identify APA efforts at a policy level regarding integrated and collaborative care.
