Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration
Medicaid New Directions
Home and Community Based Services Waiver
Initial Support Broker Training
New Directions is a Medicaid Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) "self-directed" waiver. It allows persons who are intellectually disabled and meet waiver eligibility requirements to chose and design their own waiver services and supports with the assistance of their chosen team and within the guidelines of the program. Persons in the waiver can design their own services, interview and hire their own staff, and set their own payment rates to meet their disability related needs. New Directions gives people with disabilities the opportunity to live independently and have more control of their own lives.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Persons who are new to New Directions and want to provide Support Broker services in the New Directions Waiver, or those who wish to renew certification.
New Directions Initial Support Broker Training and certification is required before a Support Broker can provide services. Certification is valid for 2 years.
It is expected that all attendees will actively participate and comply with expectations of the class including discussions, group activities, and evaluations. Trainees will be required to demonstrate core competency by passing a written exam. Because the information is critical to the success of this program, participants who arrive late or leave early will not be certified. Registration is required as space is limited. (Scroll down for the link to register.)
If you have questions about the training or if you require any special accommodations, please email alma.ford@maryland.gov.
Lunch will be on your own.
