Be The Eloquent Woman

A workshop on women and public speaking

Women report fearing public speaking more than men do--and they may have more reason than just nervousness. Women are more frequently talked over in meetings, or their points are ignored, then claimed by male participants. Women working in the public sphere often find journalists focus on their appearance, rather than their message.

This workshop is designed to help women executives and politicians improve their public speaking and subvert the expectations many have of women speakers. You will acquire strategies for succeeding as a speaker, whether you do most of your public speaking in meetings and on conference calls, or in the public arena.

Participants will learn:

  • Techniques for overcoming fear of big speaking occasions
  • How to prepare a script
  • Strategies for speaking with or without notes
  • Advantages women bring to public speaking and how to bring them to the fore
  • Lessons from outstanding women speakers
  • Putting together a "message wardrobe" to be prepared for any speaking occasion
  • How to get more speaking engagements and make the most of them
  • What conference organizers are looking for in public speakers, and what's keeping women from achieving parity on conference podiums
  • How women speakers are perceived in public settings, and how you can subvert expectations

Registration is $450 per person and includes continental breakfast, lunch and break refreshments. All participants will receive an email with additional reading, books and other resources that you can refer to again and again. Register early--by 12 midnight  Eastern Time on April 11, 2014--for $400, a $50 discount. All registration for the Washington, DC, workshop closes May 8, 2014 at 12 midnight Eastern Time. Please read our workshop policies and FAQ first; when you click on the register button, you are signifying your agreement with these policies.
