About our 2014 Keynote Speaker:
Kay Bailey Hutchison

The Honorable Kay Bailey Hutchison has been a passionate and commanding force in American politics. She was the first Republican woman to be elected to the Texas House of Representatives and then served as Texas State Treasurer.  Then in 1993, she won a special election to become the first – and, to date, the only – woman elected to represent Texas in the United States Senate.  At the time of her election, Senator Hutchison was one of only seven women serving in the U.S. Senate.  Senator Hutchison soon became the Senate's fourth-highest ranking Republican leader and was the highest-ranking Republican woman prior to her retirement in January 2013. Forbes magazine has ranked her among the world's 100 most powerful women and in 2001, she was named one of the thirty most powerful women in America by Ladies Home Journal.  Senator Hutchison is the author of three books: American Heroines: The Spirited Women who Shaped our Country, Unflinching Courage: Pioneering Women who Shaped Texas and Leading Ladies: American Trailblazers.  She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from the University of Texas Law School, where she was among only seven women in her graduating class.
