#1 - Here you will find native plants that are ideal for our unusual micro- climate. You will also see good examples of plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Shannon Lockwood of Shannon’s Custom Landscape and Garden Design, will be on site to answer questions and will present a brief overview of the landscape design and demonstrate the correct way to prune roses where to prune, when to prune. She will also talk about insects common in our zone and how to identify their damage/presence, as well as how to treat and prevent damage and ideal conditions regarding watering, light and fertilizer for most roses.
10:30AM – Presentation by Shannon Lockwood
#2 - This landmark classic Tubac territorial home with expansive front and rear garden areas got a new contemporary face lift by Terra Flora Design when new owners moved in. Gabions constructed by David Voisard mark its borders. Gates by Gaston Alejos welcome you into the rear yard where you will find fruit trees accenting the rose and herb perimeters of the pool area and bubbling fountain. Enjoy refreshments anytime during the tour at this area.
12:30PM - Presentation by Donaldina Joung, world renowned judge of roses.
#3 - A “Secret Garden” is enclosed in the walls of this authentic Mexican Hacienda. An entirely separate guest house helps frame the front garden area where raised beds make it easy to grow edible greens, vegetables and herbs that can be used in the traditional cooking kitchen. Residents and guests can enjoy this tranquil courtyard accented by roses and perennials with fruit trees and vines. The overall setting offers a restful place to watch the seasonal changing view of the Santa Rita mountains. Design by Terra Flora Design Company.
#4 - Who would expect to find a “beach” right here in Tubac? Follow the gravel path to wander among an eclectic mixture of outdoor spaces and garden areas designed by Terra Flora Design Company. Surrounded by a high fence, the private rustic front yard creates spaces for pets, vegetables, birds and a spot to see the sunset from your own private beach. Steel gates by David Voisard and steel and clay bird feeders by NJ Searcy enhance the garden space. A collection of old word roses on arbors and in the beds with complementary perennials and herbs are the focus of garden paths. Pots hold seasonal herbs, evergreens and a bubbling water feature.
9:30AM - Presentation by Rori Wailes about her own and other garden designs.
#5 - Be ready to take a deep breath as you step into an amazing private garden that will make you think you have been transported to a setting somewhere in Europe. Tall trees and bushes shade the grounds and to protect many of the plants from too much sun. Large windows in the house bring the outdoors inside. Colorful flowers and a variety of greenery bring surprises to this garden through the different seasons. This garden is an ideal setting for plein air artists to capture the color and greenery of this lush oasis in the desert.
11:30 – Presentation by Renee Schafer, a landscape design master, teacher and consultant
